Medan Merdeka UtaraJakarta Pusat 10010Republic of IndonesiaDear President Yudoyono,I am writing to concerning the arrest of Buchtar Tabuni and Sebby Sambom by the police in West Papua. Mr. Tabuni is a human rights activist and he has been involved in organising a number of peaceful demonstrations in West Papua. The most recent one was in support of the launch of the International Parliamentarians for West Papua in London in October of this year. Mr. Tabuni has been arrested merely for peacefully expressing his political views. Sebby Sambom was arrested in Sentani - Jayapura after giving a press conference where he called for the release of Buchtar Tabuni from police custody. Both men have been jailed solely for peacefully expressing their right to an opinion. We are also concerned that they may be ill-treated whilst in custody. I am writing to you to urge you to immediately release Buchtar Tabuni and Sebby Sambom from custody and asking that all charges against Buchtar Tabuni and Sebby Sambom should be dropped. We also urge you to release all political prisoners in West Papua as a sign of good faith to the West Papuan people.Yours sincerelyJoe CollinsSecretaryAWPA (Sydney) ---------------------------------Copies to1.
